My teaching view is that each student is unique and needs a challenging educational environment in which to develop physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. It is my goal to establish an environment and learning space where students can reach their maximum potential. I will provide an environment in which students may express themselves and take risks which eventually promotes learning from that experience especially inculcating human values.

I have had the chance to consider my methods of teaching and learning via my experiences as a tutor, lecturer, faculty head, program manager, and now the college principal in the fields of computing, business, and management. Here, as a member of a teaching team, I present what I think are the underlying theoretical and philosophic views I bring to and use in the classroom. My most recent professional experience is as a college principal. Prior to that, I was a business management lecturer and program manager for an American degree program. My duties include providing instruction, managing student needs, pastoral care, and growing enrolment at the existing institution. As a result of my performance, I was elevated to College Principal.

My initial years of teaching were spent improving the apparent skills: material knowledge, taking notes, and classroom management. Evidently, the effort was worthwhile. My department head was pleased with my performance, and my teaching evaluations were favourable. But I felt that my instruction was lacking in some way. I started to doubt everything. Was the information I presented to my students truly valuable? Was there actually a benefit to the discipline? Did my students learn things deeply or only on the surface? How could I assess the type of learning occurring? The statements that represent my teaching philosophy are what I use to influence my decisions concerning instruction. My teaching philosophy is firmly rooted in student-centred teaching and learning: students need to understand why learning the material is crucial, they are accountable for their own learning and must be given the resources to do so, assessment is an integral part of the learning process, and the power dynamic is shared by me and my students. Research on learning, my own teaching experiences and ideas, and criticism from my peers and mentors all influence how and what I teach.

Mr. Prasanan Kannan is an educationist who associates easily with people, commands the audience’s attention diligently, and builds a warm relationship with them in the learning environment. He guides excellently and resourcefully with professionalism yet brings to life elements of fun and excitement in the learning process. He is talented to resolve complicated issues in easy-to-apply steps, with sound understanding, and a practical good sense of information. 

Mr. Prasanan is one of the well-established academicians for Business, Management, and Information Technology. Graduated from the Faculty of Business of Northwest Missouri State University (USA) with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Management systems, Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from Lincoln Memorial University (USA), and City & Guilds (418) (UK) with Certificate in Computer Programming and Information Processing. My goal is to finish my doctorate (DBA) by the end of the next year.

Mr. Prasanan has exceptional working experience in educational institutions for more than 20 years as an IT/Business Lecturer, IT Faculty Head, and Head of Academics and the IT industry for 10 years as Software Developer, IT helpdesk, IT Manager, and PC maintenance and troubleshooting. He has also worked as an IT and Management Consultant/trainer in his own established company.  UT IT and Management Services was established in 2005. His enthusiasm in Learning and Development made him join the educational industry and served as a Lecturer, IT Coordinator, Senior Lecturer, Head of Department, and Head of Academics He has been managing and conducting training for Small and Medium Enterprises and free short courses and motivational talks for educational institutions.
