This role as an Associate Principal - Structural is to successfully lead, manage and continually develop a profitable and viable structural engineering team in Kuala Lumpur, within the overall operations and strategic framework of Arup and Malaysia in particular.

This includes understanding the market within which we operate, the needs of existing and potential clients and the total proposition on offer from the firm.

The Associate Principal, who will carry the operational title of KL Structures Team Leader, will be responsible for overall performance of the structural team and making strategic hires in line with Arup aspirations locally and nationally.

You will be responsible for building collaborative relationships within your team, other business areas, geographies and client and non-client organisations.

In addition, you will be able to articulate a vision to your team and co-ordinate and focus resources to meet the needs of the client and deliver profitable results for Arup.

The Team leader will act as part of the senior management team that collectively manages the team under the overall leadership of the Group Leader.

Skills and experience in structural engineering, especially in design of tall buildings, are essential.


The Opportunity

  • To lead the structural engineering team in Kuala Lumpur as a team leader, in terms of Development of Structures engineering capability within the Group, leading structures design input on a broad range of projects.
  • Review and supervise structural engineering design work within the Business Group, to provide Structures input on total project delivery for a broad range of projects within the general structural engineering area and prepare detailed tender submissions to clients outlining the structural engineering capability within the Structures Team.
  • Prepare project reports for clients summarizing structural engineering issues and strategically advising on best outcomes taking into account the total context in which the client operates and develop systems and concepts for a sustainable approach to Structures engineering design.
  • Develop and train lessexperienced structural engineers within the Structures Team and to liaise with other engineeringdiscipline groups on design issues.
  • To advise Senior Management in general, and report on issues relating to the growth and development of the Structures business support Arup's compliance in maintaining ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 requirement and provide input assistance supporting other Structures Team within the Australasia Division and input into Arup global skills networks within Structures area.

Is this role right for you?

  • Tertiary qualification in Structural Engineering.
  • Must possess PEPC registration with the Board of Engineers, Malaysia as well as Professional registration or chartership with the Institute of Engineers in other countries will be an added advantage.
  • Substantial knowledge and experience in tall building structures engineering consultancy and design in the local marketplace, including critical issues and a sound client network.
  • Ability to undertake highlevel analysis.
  • Substantial experience in managing key projects, including the management of multidisciplinary project teams and consulting engineering environment, including the ability to advise clients on costeffective, sustainable solutions.
