A professional Broadcast Operation Engineer with over fourteen years of operation and technical experience in the largest broadcast company in Malaysia. Highly skilled in troubleshooting, analyzing, fixing, and detecting any errors related to audio/video quality and subtitle availability for DTH, IPTV, and OTT New Media Platform during on-air by using Barco smart monitoring and MSX subtitle monitoring. Experienced in managing various projects at local and international levels such as department consolidation, implementing the new Off-Air Login System to Astro, and dealing with internal and external stakeholders. Familiarised with the 24x7 on incidents/crisis management situations and the use of technical terms needed in higher management escalation. Recognized by others as having the capabilities to work meticulously, lead the team, display high levels of integrity, communicate very well at every management level, manage time independently, have the ability to balance the administrative needs of management whilst providing excellent customer service, maintaining the confidentiality and scheduling with ease. Experience

Position: Engineer, MCR, Broadcast Platform Operations.                                            

AUG, 2015 – Present

  • Reporting and assisting directly to the department Manager in all aspects of work deliverables within the department.
  • Leading a team of MCR System Engineers for 12 hours of shift operations to maintain On Air Availability of 99.98% and performing first-level recovery when issue detected.
  • Ensuring effective Incident/Crisis Management and maintaining the standard of the service levels by remedying urgent, unplanned, unexpected, or unusual circumstances affecting all service levels. 
  • Coordinating, and providing a response to the management 24x7 on incidents/crisis situations to ensure that the company’s image is not compromised. 
  • Supervising the day-to-day operations of relevant departments through incident 
    management and design systematic workflows and procedures to enhance customer experiences.
  • Escalating and delegating all technical issues to 2nd level internal/external Support teams to be performed accordingly as per the escalation workflow when required and monitor turnaround time (TAT) to resolve Trouble Ticket (TT), prepare the report and implement process improvements to minimize TT resolution time.
  • Generating daily, weekly, and monthly technical reports i.e. shift operation reports, performance data reports, and incident reports with accurate data analysis. Preparing all the dashboard reporting to the SLT team such as OTT reporting, shift and weekly operation report
  • Monitoring all services in the company such as audio/video quality and subtitle availability for DTH, IPTV, and OTT New Media Platform and this including all the digital service status by ensuring all the indications on API probing, PRTG health status, Nagios server monitoring, and slack alert are fine. Carry out functionality check on Astro Portal, CH200, Astro Best, and Astro First for NJOI and Normal platform. Configuring all the monitoring panels accordingly with the latest information and setup.
  • Involving directly and communicating proactively in new PMO projects and CM activities to support the new services, product delivery, project implementation, system enhancements, technology roadmaps, and technical issues. 
  • Highlighting and following up with Project and Engineering Team for any System Maintenance and Upgrade that impacts Broadcast System and Services.
  • Reviewing, developing, and implementing processes to improve team performance in providing a continuously high level of customer service and effective/timely first-line system recovery. Regularly review KPIs and operational processes to ensure continuous improvement of customer experience. 
  • Updating and maintaining all the technical documentation are up to date with the latest info before distributing it to top-level management.
  • Providing operation support for CDN network services based on cloud architecture workflow and broadband ISPs.
  • Feed routing(tie-line) and confirmation with source. Feed requesting and routing to the internal customer such as QC and Live Presentation.

Position: Playout and Recording System Engineer.                                                         

AUG, 2008 – AUG, 2015

Ingest and Recording

  • Reported and assisted shift senior engineer in all aspects of work deliverables within the shift.
  • Recorded live material SD and HD content. Experienced in the use of tape base (digibeta) and server base (SQ Quantel for SD and pro drive for HD). 
  • Compiled all news related to Malaysia for top management. 
  • Archived all old and new content to storage tech (MAM archiving server). 
  • Ensured all content that went to archive server free from impairment such as a head clog, digitizing, audio mute/low, colour contrast, and also it had been edited perfectly base on the Company standardization Format.
  • Double-checked all the content adhered to National Censorship Standardization. 
  • Managed all the media transferring processes via FTP to the server (archiving). 

Playout and Presentation. 

  • Monitored and organised all channels’ presentations to adhere to the presentation guideline (sequence of promos, bumpers, and commercials are in place).
  • Advised channel custodian on what are the best options if there are any unexpected issues such as material late to arrive or media caching problems. 
  • Finalised all the applications (G3 viewer and services) and hardware (Router and Resterizer) needed for monitoring were running at normal condition. 
  • Handled and supported any unexpected or scheduled Live Events such as Sports Live Events, Olympics, and FIFA World Cup. Familiar with all the tools needed for the live presentation.
