Amir Arif

I am a fresh graduate with a bachelor's degree of Mechanical Engineering (Mechanical-Automotive) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. I am looking for career that can provide career growth and learning opportunities. 

Although my background is mechanical engineering, I am passionate about learning new things outside the boundary of engineering. As example, business strategies and artificial intelligence. This is because I view artificial intelligence/IT, businesses and engineering as together instead of different disciplines.

Combination of AI with businesses is the new norm. I have a vision that in distant future, the technology of AI will be incorporated in engineering. Example of this is generative design that implement AI to design 3D CAD models with the highest efficiency. Although this technology is not commonly used by public, I believe this will made a huge impact on our current capabilities of engineering. Therefore, I would like to explore more in the future in order to expand and grow more than my current limit because I believe in moving forward in my career.

As I am a fresh graduate, my only experience limits to my industrial training and experience in universities. I did my industrial training in UMW Toyota Sdn Bhd as assistant executive engineer. I am involved in few projects that requires planning, management, innovation and presentation. I am well trained in terms of presentation including preparing my own material, conduct the meeting and present updates to top management. 

The biggest achievement during my industrial training is proving the accuracy of G-sensor/accelerometer. Although it sounds simple, the real challenge is convincing top management that the local made products are as reliable as Japan made products. Main reason that UMW Toyota Sdn Bhd chose local made products because the cost is significantly lower. This will benefit Malaysian customers as the vehicle price are not expensive compared to using Japan made products.

Regardless, as a team, we managed to convince the top management and the project was successful. Apart from that, there are plenty of times that I had to manage hiccups during projects. As example, facelift version of one model might have slight changes in the electronics used. In this case, I had to find other solutions to ensure certain accessories still function as intended.

My most relevant education is bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Mechanical-Automotive) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). I graduated in July 2023 with CGPA of 3.81. Although my course major is automotive, the first 2 years of my engineering degree was mainly about the fundamentals of mechanical engineering. In 3rd and final year, there are several courses of automotive and the rest are purely mechanical engineering subjects.
