About Hoe Jin:
I am a final-year Chemical Engineering student at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), passionate about advancing sustainable technologies and ensuring quality excellence. During my internship as a Quality Assurance Intern, I supported continuous improvement initiatives through Statistical Process Control (SPC) monitoring, GR&R studies, FMEA reviews, and 8D reporting, while strengthening my foundation in statistical quality tools through Measurement System Analysis (MSA) training. These experiences sharpened my analytical thinking, attention to detail, and technical communication skills, preparing me to contribute effectively to process-driven, quality-focused industries and to drive sustainable operational improvements.
Beyond academics, I actively pursued innovation and leadership through international and national competitions and exhibitions, developing projects and novel solutions related to CO₂ capture technologies, functional beverage innovation, and sustainable wastewater treatment. These experiences enhanced my technical creativity, project management, and solution-driven mindset, while providing valuable exposure to real-world challenges assessed by industry leaders. I am passionate about leveraging my engineering knowledge to deliver sustainable, practical innovations that address industry needs. Moving forward, I am excited to contribute to organizations that champion quality, continuous improvement, and environmental responsibility.
Experience
I gained hands-on experience in quality management during my internship at Silcotech Industry, where I conducted inspections on raw materials, in-process components, and finished rubber products to ensure compliance with quality standards. I contributed to quality improvement initiatives by supporting SPC monitoring, GR&R studies, FMEA reviews, and preparing 8D reports. Additionally, I completed Measurement System Analysis (MSA) training to strengthen my proficiency in statistical quality tools.
In my final year project, I explored CO₂ capture using calcium-alginate beads to encapsulate monoethanolamine (MEA), focusing on the adsorption kinetics of the system. Building on this work, I participated in the OGM Industrial Week 2025 Technical Case Study & Presentation Competition, where I proposed an improved solution using barium-alginate-graphite beads to reduce the MEA issues such as equipment corrosion, solvent loss, and high energy consumption during regeneration. This innovative approach secured 1st place in the competition, judged by industry experts from Petronas and Schlumberger.
On the other hand, I also led my team in the 16th Malaysia Chem-E-Car Competition 2024, in which we designed a mini-car that can be moved by using chemical reaction with zero carbon emissions. As the team leader, I led the design and development of a chemical reaction-powered car, deciding the moving mechanism and reactor, optimizing reaction parameters, and conducting performance tests to ensure the car operated accurately and safely. Under my leadership, the team achieved 1st place in the Poster Category and 6th place in the Car Performance Category, outperforming 34 national and international teams.
In another innovation project, I co-developed levitated CaCO₃-probiotics-encapsulated calcium-alginate microbeads as a functional beverage topping. This novel solution improves the shelf life and health benefits of probiotic drinks. I was actively involved in prototype development and public exhibitions, showcasing strong technical communication, adaptability, and problem-solving skills. The project received recognition in several international expos, including gold and special awards at EREKA UniMAP 2024, ARC 2024, and Malaysia Technology Expo 2025.
Education
I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering with Honours at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), maintaining a CGPA of 3.97 and consistently earning a place on the Dean’s List. My studies have provided a solid foundation in chemical process design, innovative product development, and process simulation using tools such as Aspen HYSYS. Throughout my academic journey, I have applied engineering principles to real-world challenges, from designing a carotenoid production plant to developing novel encapsulated probiotic delivery systems, demonstrating both technical competence and creativity in problem-solving. Prior to university, I achieved a CGPA of 3.75 in STPM and earned 10As in SPM, reflecting consistent academic excellence and dedication.
