About Prema Chellayah:
A dedicated, and experienced senior clinical medical physicist with 18 years of experience in operations, management, project management, administration, radiology (conventional X-rays, MRI, CT, dental, and U/S), nuclear medicine imaging (SPEC-CT, PET-CT, gamma camera), internal dosimetry, treatment planning, radiotherapy and brachytherapy optical imaging, molecular physics, analytical chemistry, mass spectrometry, biomedical imaging (TEM, SEM, infrared, and con-focal), research and development, teaching, and education. A well-experienced scientist who has managed subject roles in various multi-specialty hospitals in Malaysia as well as internationally, and my experience as well as interests perfectly match medical physics and related biomedical field requirements. A well-rounded career-spanning operation and multitasking.
Experience
I am writing to express my sincere interest and enthusiasm in applying for the position advertised as a ‘Senior Medical Physicist’. My current work as a senior medical physicist in the nuclear medicine field makes me a good candidate for the position. I started to work as a medical physicist in the radiology department at Hospital Sungai Buloh, Selangor. In 2005, I joined Penang General Hospital to work in the Nuclear Medicine Department. As a medical physicist, I have taken part in ample nuclear medicine, radiology, and radiotherapy activities, especially in the introduction of new services and the improvement of existing ones (2005–2013). During this time, I developed my skills as a medical physicist, undertook research tasks (in collaboration with the University of Science Malaysia), administration, and project management, and networked, presented, and supervised undergraduate and master’s students in medical physics.
Education
I believe that my education and my previous experience as a Research Fellow (postgraduate student) at UOB (University of Birmingham), where I did research in the development and application of proton transfer reaction mass spectrometry in medicine (Molecular Physics and Analytical Chemistry), I recently graduated from the University of Birmingham. My 4-year Ph.D. education at the University of Birmingham enhanced the skills needed for analytical chemistry, mass spectrometry, molecular physics, statistics, chemical and biological samples, safety, lab equipment, chemical compounds (isoprene, halogenated compounds and etc) as well as lab management. Besides that, I also enrolled in an MSc program that involve Biomedical imaging in Physical Sciences. During that period, I did research involving optical imaging, MRI, radiotherapy and brachytherapy.
