Tariq Chagouri

I'm committed to investigating how technology, engineering, and management connect in the energy sector as a motivated and aspirational petroleum engineering student. I have a good background in chemistry, math, and physics, a great interest in chemical engineering, and a comprehensive understanding of the intricate procedures involved in the extraction and refinement of crude oil.

A passion for creativity and problem-solving has complemented my academic interests and motivated me to actively look for opportunities to put my knowledge and talents to use in real-world situations. I have developed my analytical and interpretive skills through internships and research projects, and I have received practical experience in fields including reservoir simulation, well testing, and production optimisation.

Due to my interdisciplinary interests, I am also pursuing a minor in technology management, which has extended my grasp of the commercial and economic sides of the industry and broadened my view on the role of technology in the energy sector.

I consider myself to be a motivated and devoted person that is determined to utilising my training and skills to significantly impact the energy sector. The chances and challenges that lie ahead excite me, and I have faith in my capacity to succeed in this fast-paced and always changing industry.

As an aspiring petroleum engineer, I have completed various research projects and training programs related to my field, including undergraduate research experience programs and certificates in managing organizational change, enterprise risk management, and engineering leadership. I have also been actively involved in student organizations and committees at Texas A&M University and Duke University, where I have earned certificates in oil and gas industry operations, leading teams, and corporate and business strategy. Additionally, I have completed courses in negotiation skills, workplace motivation, and creative communication for engineers, among others. In terms of internships, I am seeking a 12-week oil and gas company internship from July to October 2023. I have also completed research projects in the fields of mechanical engineering, petroleum engineering, and chemical engineering. These projects include exploring 3D printing of ceramics for heterogeneous catalysts, designing novel electrodes for flexible electronics, and testing the effect of acoustic waves on oil recovery in Qatar's oil reservoirs. I have also conducted research on enhancing completion fluids' corrosion properties in petroleum production systems and determining the lubricating capabilities of commercially available liquid lubricants for water-based drilling. I have received various awards and recognitions, including being on the Dean's Honor Roll, receiving a Qatar Foundation Scholarship, and receiving the Outstanding Engineering Enrichment Award. I am a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, American Chemical Society, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Society of Petroleum Engineers, and American Association of Petroleum Geologists.

I am currently pursuing my education at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) where I am majoring in petroleum engineering and minoring in both chemical engineering and technology management. Prior to joining UTM, I was a student at Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ) where I was pursuing a major in petroleum engineering and minoring in chemical engineering. In both universities I have partaken in many significant research projects and have been an active member in the community.
