Job Description

This developer will be working to expand our capabilities around high-performance backend batch, real-time and streaming APIs and data pipelines and integrate these capabilities into our Mosaic Portal, a one-stop shop for self-service insights using our most important data product, Mosaic. In addition, there will be opportunities to maintain, enhance or even rewrite/re-platform aspects of the wider product portfolio.

We are looking for self-directed problem solver, passionate about high quality code and excellent user experience and someone who is excited by the prospect of working with large and diverse datasets using cutting-edge techniques such as AI, machine learning and deep learning.

We leverage a lot of cloud so it is expected that the developer be familiar with cloud-first design and serverless technologies, either in AWS or one of the other major cloud providers.

Qualifications

Key skills

JavaScript (Node, Express, React) – mandatory

Python - desirable

Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL database systems

Ability to understand the essential needs of users and meet these in well-designed programs.

Good skills in time and resource management.

Familiarity with cloud native development (AWS preferred - e.g. ECS, Lambda)

Experience with Snowflake and/or Spark is a bonus

Others: DevOps - Jenkins, Terraform

Typical experience

2+ years in software development coupled with tertiary qualifications in computer science or a related discipline.

Backend development experience is essential, together with a desire to expand frontend and devops skills.

Responsible for

Designing, developing and maintaining applications software in JavaScript (express, node).

A strong focus is placed on dev work, with only approximately one third of the employee's time spent in design.

Engineering Manager

Supervises

May mentor other developers.

Main activities

Designing, coding, testing and installing applications programs either in one major language or in a range of programs across multiple platforms. Developing operating and system documentation.

Working with users to evaluate IT applications and equipment requirements. Ensuring that systems are developed within agreed budgets and time frames and achieving necessary design and systems security standards.

Providing technical mentoring and guidance to less experienced members of applications development team.
