    Description

    Summary

    Designs and develops customer products and the design of test fixtures and manufacturing tooling. Performs basic to high complexity design assignments.



    Position Responsibilities

    Level I - IV

    • Focuses on mechanical design and documentation for customer products and/or related tooling, resulting in a product or tooling that supports the manufacturing environment, (if applicable), to meet both the customers requirements and the internal manufacturing requirements.
    • Develops basic drawings of components and assemblies.
    • Makes Engineering computations and writes/edits specifications.
    • Creates modified basic designs for new or existing products and tooling.
    • Verifies completed work, checking dimensions, materials to be used and quantities per the verification plan.
    • Interacts with vendors to ensure proper fabrication of mechanical components for product, testers and tooling.
    • Creates and maintains basic engineering drawings.
    • Assists assembly of tooling, test fixtures and prototypes.
    • Performs basic to intermediate drafting and design duties such as tolerance analysis, material selection, and selection of fabrication methods.
    • Provides assistance to the Hardware Design, Software Design, PCB Design, Functional Test, and ICT test for product, test, and tooling development.
    • Contacts and works with hardware, software, and equipment vendors.
    • Follows project plan and reports project status to leadership.
    • Assists in project proposals and associated cost estimates.
    • Assists with DFX reviews and creates necessary documentation.
    • Develops an understanding of Design For Excellence philosophy and promotes with customers.
    • Communicates with customer technical personnel regarding basic technical issues.
    • Communicates technical challenges and works with leadership to create and implement solutions.
    • Works with customers to understand requirements regarding mechanical design.
    • Works with Sustaining Engineering (product, process, test and quality) to assist in the development of products that leverage internal manufacturing and test processes.
    • Assists in the development of advanced/new technologies.
    • Participates in research for new design methods and tools.
    • Assists in the coordination of mechanical engineering strategies for customers.



    Level II

    • Develops intermediate level drawings of components and assemblies.
    • Creates new or modified designs for new or existing products and tooling.
    • Performs intermediate level drafting and design duties such as tolerance analysis, material selection, selection of fabrication methods.
    • Develops project proposals and associated cost estimates.
    • Performs Design for Excellence (DFX) reviews and creates necessary documentation.
    • Demonstrates a good understanding of DFX philosophy and promotes with customers.
    • Participates in the development of advanced/new technologies related to plastics, sheet metal, castings and machined parts and processes.
    • Provides research and development for new design methods and tools.



    Level III

    • Develops complex drawings of components and assemblies.
    • Performs complex drafting and design duties such as tolerance analysis, material selection, selection of fabrication methods.
    • Demonstrates an advanced understanding of Design for Excellence (DFX) philosophy and promotes with customers.
    • Drives and leads research and development for new design methods and tools.



    Level IV

    • Initiates concepts for solving the most complex engineering problems.
    • Leads less experienced engineers in best-practices.
    • Expert in advanced technologies.
    • Demonstrates strongest understanding of Design for Excellence (DFX) philosophy and promotes with customers.
    • Prepares technical presentations for customers.


    Level I - IV

    • Creates detailed drawings of mechanical components using industry standard drafting practices.
    • Demonstrates good problem solving skills and the ability to make sound basic technical decisions.
    • Demonstrates day to day project activity organization in accordance with MCAD development procedures.
    • Demonstrates the ability to work within the MCAD development and project teams
    • Demonstrates a basic understanding of various technologies with an area of knowledge in at least one of the following areas: sheet-metal, plastic parts, castings, electromechanical mechanisms, machined parts and the processes and tooling and technologies used for manufacture.
    • Demonstrates a basic understanding of mechanism design and creatively and efficiently design mechanical portions of products, tooling and test fixtures based on various applications and technologies.
    • Makes basic judgments using sound engineering principles and techniques for non-complex situations- may require involving leadership prior to final decision.
    • Demonstrates basic knowledge of material selection for manufacturing customer products, tooling and test fixtures.
    • Effective organization and prioritization skills.
    • Effective interpersonal skills.
    • Completes projects in a timely manner.
    • Supports a 24/7 global business operation as required.
    • Demonstrates discretion, confidentiality, judgment, and professionalism when representing the company.

    • Requires minimal supervision for completion of tasks.
    • Available for travel up to 10% to 20% of the time, including day, overnight and international travel as required.

    Position Qualifications

    Minimum Education / Experience

    Level I

    • 4 year related technical degree or equivalent combination that demonstrates prolonged education in a technical field; entry level professional4 year related technical degree or equivalent combination that demonstrates prolonged education in a technical field; entry level professional


    Level II

    • 4 year technical degree; 5 + years experience in mechanical engineering including 3D modeling and CAD, or equivalent combination that demonstrates prolonged education in a technical field. Familiar with advanced technologies and applications


    Level III

    • 4 year technical degree; 8 + years experience in mechanical engineering including 3D modeling and CAD, or equivalent combination that demonstrates prolonged education in a technical field; Master of advanced technologies and applications

    Level IV

    • 4 year technical degree, 15+ yrs experience in mechanical engineering including 3D modeling and CAD, or equivalent combination that demonstrates prolonged education in a technical field; engineering expert; Master's degree preferred
