    Summary

    As a member of the supplier development and performance management team, individuals in this capacity are expected to perform in a unified, coordinated team effort under the direction of the Supplier Engineering Manager to establish partnerships with key suppliers to improve the quality and on time delivery of supplied materials while achieving cost containment. This position interacts with procurement, manufacturing, continuation engineering and other Celestica personnel, as well as supplier representatives to improve processes that impact supplied materials. This position will mainly interact with suppliers that performed sheet metal, structural and other related welding as per ASW standard.

    Detailed Description

    • Performs inspection, examines weld joins and validation of Built to Print (BTP) parts at supplier sites, particularly of structural steel welding in adherence to AWS standards
    • Develops training materials and checklists on weld inspection for suppliers and Supplier Engineers for quality assurance throughout various fabrication stages
    • Observes techniques and performance of welders at supplier sites including the correct preparation work, cutting methods, joint positions, welder settings,including clamp placement and alignment
    • Develops, reviews and endorses supplier welding procedures
    • Validates training records of welders and fitters at supplier sites, including preparation and handling of qualification records and welding procedure specifications
    • Oversees inspections and tests carried out by suppliers or external entities
    • Setting up mechanical testing appointments with 3rd party testing inspectors where required and analyses x-ray photographs of welded joints.
    • Maintain comprehensive fabrication, inspection and test records and pertinent documentation
    • Document deviations found during inspections and provide recommendations for corrective measures to ensure adherence to contract plans and specifications
    • Participates in Material Review Board activities - conducts FMEArisk assessments of defective parts and recommends scrapping or methods for reworking including re-work or repair methods
    • Provides guidance to suppliers on root cause analysis, and drive implementation of effective containment, corrective and preventive actions in a timely manner
    • Actively engages suppliers on Kaizen and continuous improvement exercises
    • Drives suppliers to exceed Scorecard thresholds
    • Endorse weld inspection reports, develop weld maps, conducts weld qualification, and sign off on qualifications
    • Communicates effectively with stakeholders including suppliers, customers and internal cross functional team members regarding project progress, specifications and requirements
    • Prepares reports for executive level presentation
    • Performs additional duties as assigned

    Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

    • Familiar with AWS Welding Codes/Standards, welding processes, welding procedures, welding inspection, welder qualifications, materials, and weld testing limitations
    • Deep understanding of ANSI/AWS A2.4, Standard Symbol For Welding And Brazing And Nondestructive testing, particularlyAWS D1.1, D1.2, D1.3, D1.6welding codes
    • Ability to read blueprint drawings, prepare and keep technical records/reports and make responsible judgments
    • Knowledge of sheet metal and structural frame manufacturing processes, procedures, and production equipment
    • Well versed in technical drawing interpretations and geometric tolerances
    • Demonstrates a keen attention to detail to prevent potentially catastrophic mistakes
    • Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Strong English proficiency, spoken & written
    • Aptitude for working independently with minimal supervision

    Typical Education

    • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent applicable experience.
    • Qualified as AWS QC1, Standard for AWS Certification of Welding Inspector (AWS-CWI), for at least 3 to 5 years
