Our Engineers

Our backend engineers come from all around the world and a variety of backgrounds. Some have PhD's, while some learned to code outside the university system completely.We have no formal educational requirements for the Backend Engineer position.

The only thing we require is that you're a fast learner and have some experience working in static languages like Java, Go, Rust or experience working with distributed systems or micro-services.

You colleagues will be men and women, from across South East Asia and the UK. We're building a bank for everyone and we especially encourage you to apply regardless of where you're from and who you are.

Technology:

We use the following technologies at Bigpay, experience in any of these is helpful, but not required.

Rust (especially Tokio and Rocket)

Java (especially Springboot and Kotlin)

Kafka

Kubernetes

Terraform

Google Cloud Platform

Don't worry if you've not worked in Rust before, any experience with Java, C, Go will make it easy to pick up. Our long term goal is to move to a micro-service like architecture with most things being written in Rust.

Location:

Bigpay works in project-based sprints in small, interdisciplinary teams. We have Engineers across DevOps, Backend, Apps (Android and iOS), Web and Security. We work out of several hubs, in Singapore, Malaysia and soon Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam.

We operate in a flexible, hybrid working environment that is intentional and purposeful about face to face meet ups. If you're close to one of our hubs, docome to the office for the first day of the sprint to brainstorm and plan with your team, but in general we want you to do deep work (coding) wherever you feel most productive.

Lastly, our interview process is normally a quick phone interview, a coding task and call to discuss it, and 2-3 hours of onsite interviews that can be conducted via zoom as well. We promise not to ask you any brain teasers or trick questions. We might design a system together on a whiteboard, the same way we often work together, but we won't make you write code on one.
