    Job Description

    As our local Legal Counsel joining us on a permanent basis, you will initially be responsible for covering our role of Legal Counsel & Property Portfolio Manager. This will see you managing all responsibilities and hold accountability for the overall performance of NEXTDC's property portfolio; providing legal services to internal stakeholders.

    Following on from this; your ongoing responsibilities will include the efficient provision of legal services for our Engineering and Design team, Capital Works and Vendor Management teams to mitigate risks.

    Your key responsibilities:

    Property Management

    • Providing expert legal advice for NEXTDC's operations and business, including sales, marketing, intellectual property, general contract and regulatory matters;
    • Leading the review, preparation and negotiation of commercial agreements including both sales and supplier contracts;
    • Assisting in the development of policies, procedures, and training programmes for staff on relevant legal issues;
    • Engaging with the management team and external advisers in the evaluation, structuring and documentation of future business opportunities; and
    • Acting as a single point of responsibility and accountability for the overall management of NEXTDC's property portfolio, including negotiating and managing leases with tenants and ensuring adequate insurances are maintained.

    Legal Services:

    • Provide expert legal advice for Internal Stakeholders, including the review, preparation, negotiation and amendment of relevant legal documentation including:
      • construction contracts, design and project development consultant agreements and equipment supply agreements.
      • Sales and leasing contracts and related matters
      • intellectual property and general contract matters
      • ad hoc legal advice on regulatory matters relevant to NEXTDC
    • Assist in the development of policies, procedures and training programmes for staff on relevant legal issues
    • Provide expert legal advice in the interpretation of legislation and monitor changes and developments in the legal and regulatory environment
    • Participate with the management team and external advisers in the evaluation, structuring and documentation of future business opportunities

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Laws and Admission in Malaysia
    • 4 - 8 years' post qualification experience in a well-regarded firm or corporation
    • Previous experience in construction contract, consultant agreement and equipment supply agreement reviews and negotiation.
    • Understanding of property management, or IT/telecommunications/ technology law desirable but not essential.

    About you:

    • Strong working knowledge of building services, developments, and trends to assess possible implications on tenancy, financial and physical aspects.
    • Ability to communicate at all levels and build effective and professional relationships with clients and colleagues
    • In-depth knowledge of relevant acts and legislation
    • Highly developed verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
    • Commercial acumen
    • Strong contract management, negotiation, especially service, equipment supply and construction agreement negotiation, and influencing skills
    • Native/Bilingual proficiency in English and Bahasa Malay - Thai language proficiency (at a minimum of professional working level) desirable.
