    The Company

    Our client is a games development studio founded in Malaysia. They are a tech focused studio with both internal IP(s) and external co-development projects. They build games over multiple platforms, primarily focused on PC (Unreal Engine). Their flagship IP Eximius : Seize the Frontline is a full serviced multiplayer 5v5 FPS/RTS hybrid squad based combat game, launched 2021 on both Steam, then the Epic Games Store. They provide full cycle, co-development, consulting, and virtual production support to our external partners. Today they are a team of forty-five full-time internal developers and growing.

    The Role

    Our client is on the lookout for great full-time professionals in 2D Concept Art development to join our growing development team. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with our core team in producing consistently believable, stylistically accurate, invoking designs and illustrations in our many internal and external projects.

    Role Descriptions

    Principal Responsibilities
    • Collaborate alongside our team and project stakeholders in providing early visual direction, in contributing and shaping its visual language, with appealing original designs of its required entities, within production feasibility and calendar milestones.
    • Develop believable and visually invoking concepts, solving design problems utilizing strong art fundamentals, with peripheral knowledge across multiple production disciplines and software to visually realize worlds, culture, characters, creatures, etc.
    • Work closely with multiple disciplines, in designing, planning and ascertaining accurate production estimates, to identify any potential pitfalls during development. To ensure a virtually believable universe that our players would fully immerse themselves in.

    Team and Personal Responsibilities
    • Good interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills, is able to effectively liaise over various disciplines, and stakeholders across different project and approval stages.
    • Experienced, or keen to learn and improve new pipeline and production practices through iterative development methodologies, be it traditional or agile workflows.
    • Constantly familiarizing and keeping updated with current industry standards, trends, pipelines, and software to effectively and consistently hit higher graphical benchmarks.

    Skill Descriptions

    Core Requirements:
    • Experience in 2D Software (Adobe Photoshop, PaintTool SAI, Clip Studio Paint, etc.).
    • Experience in Image Management Software (PureRef, Adobe Bridge, Kuadro, etc.).
    • Experience in Pre Production Practices (Mood Paintings, Character Sheets, etc.).
    • Solid Observational Skills, in Understanding and Visualizing Shapes and Forms.
    • Solid Comprehension in Human and Creature Anatomy, Industrial, and Vehicular Design.
    • Ability to Visualize and Illustrate different Perspective, Lighting and Rendering styles.
    • Ability to understand complex multi-state design(s) for assets requiring animation.
    • Strong Imagination and Acumen in grasping and visualizing complex theories and ideas.
    • Experience in Traditional and or Agile work environments and methodologies.
    • Ability to Self-Asses, Iterate, and Improve one's own work.
    • Knowledgeable in a typical game development cycle.
    • Is Proficient in English, verbal and written.

    Supplementary Skills

    • Experience with Multiple Art Genres (Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Non-Fiction, etc.).
    • Experience with Multiple Concept Entities (Character, Creature, Vehicle, Settings, etc.).
    • Experience in Producing Key / Cover / Promotional Level Art.

    Beneficial & Bonus Skills

    • Experience with Unreal Engine 4, and or 5.
    • Experience in 2D Texturing Software (Substance Painter, 3D Coat, Blender, etc.).
    • Experience in Version Control Software (SVN, Git, Perforce, etc.).
    • Experience in both Hard-Surfaced, and Stylized / Hand Painted Development.
    • Familiar with Game Art Asset Pipeline (Development, Optimization, In-Game QA, etc.).
    • Familiar with Traditional Mediums.

    Rank Requirements

    Junior / Fresh Graduate Concept Artist Requirements:
    • Possesses strong illustrative understanding of perspective, layout, silhouette, shapes, forms, lighting, and material rendering. Alongside a sufficient portfolio showcasing 2D concept and illustration pieces using industry standard software(s), and or game engine(s). Previous work to showcase treatment(s) with imaginative, creative, and stylistic consistency in creating visually appealing and thought provoking designs.

    Intermediate Concept Artist Requirements

    • Solid experience and demonstrated ability in concept work, consistent delivery of design pieces that meet project direction, in both stylistic and technical feasibility. Decent knowledge in in-game technical practices and theory. Have at least been credited with one title launch, with preferably a minimum of three to four years of industry experience.

    Senior Concept Artist Requirements

    • Excellent knowledge and demonstrated consistency in developing visually stunning concept designs and illustrations across multiple project styles, within its graphical demands. Ability to document workflows, improve pipelines, and mentor new staff. Exceptional understanding of form, able to visualize, plan and develop visual languages with minimal support. Have at least been credited with two or more game title launches, with preferably a minimum of five to six years of industry experience.

    Principal Concept Artist Requirements

    • Exceptional creative acumen in design and illustration, consistent demonstration in developing visually immaculate pieces throughout various high profile projects. Strong technical and in-game understanding and proficiency, with a sharp eye for artistic fidelity and detail. Able to benchmark, and document processes, while maintaining the standard of delivery. Excellent working knowledge in 2D tools, with some supplementary knowhow in 3D/Engine tools. Have at least been credited with three or more game title launches, with preferably a minimum of eight to ten years of industry experience.

    Lead Concept Artist Requirements

    • Excellent background in concept and illustration development coupled with strong interpersonal, communication, and project management skills. Ability to fully understand and breakdown project requirements, and work closely with all disciplines in maintaining timely delivery of pre production deliverables to their respective stakeholders. Demonstrated ability in delegating and maintaining project standards and demands, while adapting, and iterating across a variety of artistic styles. Wide knowledge of technical constraints, optimization and implementation to determine the best tools and techniques in hitting project visual targets. Have at least been credited with two or more game title launches, with preferably a minimum of five to six years of industry experience.
