    The role responsibilities

    Job Role

    This is a role for an experienced retail business and risk professional providing technical expert-based assessments and support to the enterprise risk review (ERR) team on a global group-wide basis. The candidate will assist ERR Consumer, Private, and Business Banking Review team in providing management with an independent assessment of the quality of specified portfolios, their risk governance, and the degree of alignment between strategy and delivery.

    This will be achieved by evaluating a business's effective risk management control on elements of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF), with a principle focus on Retail Credit Risk.

    Key Responsibilities

  • Good knowledge, awareness and understanding of the wider business, economic and market environment in which the Group operates in respect of the countries reviewed.
  • Maintain and develop personal risk capabilities and skills to meet ongoing needs and plans.
  • Work with CPBB risk review lead to provide an independent assessment of the credit process and governance against the portfolio framework, Group Policies and Procedures, and Group values.
  • Ensure effective management of the operational risks within the Function and compliance with applicable internal policies, and external laws and regulations.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the Enterprise Risk review's risk management processes.
  • Ensure that all work undertaken as a member of the Enterprise Risk Review function is delivered to the highest standards and within agreed budgets each year.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of work programmes which reflect the current business organisation and operating environment.
  • As directed to perform, support, and lead the planning, fieldwork and reporting of Enterprise Risk Reviews engagements to deliver agreed objectives.
  • To identify and escalate significant issues, and ensure these issues are appropriately tracked and followed up.
  • Undertake a detailed review of the credit quality to provide assurance of effective planning, communication, control, and risk management.
  • Execute the Enterprise Risk Review function for CPBB and ensure that the programme of reviews is undertaken in accordance with the approved Terms of Reference for the function.
  • Ensure that reviews provide a combination of assurance and anticipation; that the reports and findings are accepted by the CPBB business, and any actions arising there from are followed through to closure.
  • Ensure that the reports of the reviews are written on a timely manner and is succinct without missing the key details required to understand the context of the issues identified.
  • Strategy

  • Awareness and understanding of the Group's business strategy and model appropriate to the role and the ability to assess in the reviews undertaken whether misalignments between strategy and stated risk appetite are occurring or are likely to occur.
  • Understand and implement the strategic intent and collective agenda in CPBB Banking Clients globally.
  • Business

    Through understanding of the Consumer Business with exposure to second line credit risk and overall business management. This in-depth understanding of the business is required undertake a detailed review of the credit quality to provide assurance of effective planning, communication, control, and risk management.

    Processes

  • Identify the positive aspects and areas for improvements in businesses, geographies and thematic risk reviews. Provide constructive and independent feedback on risk issues identified and wherever appropriate, recommend the actions that may be taken to mitigate the issue identified.
  • Risk Management

  • Ensure effective management of the financial risks within the Function and compliance with applicable internal policies, and external laws and regulations.
  • Work with CPBB risk review lead to provide an independent assessment of the credit process and governance against the portfolio framework, Group Policies and Procedures, and Group values.

  • Responsible for assessing the effectiveness of the business unit's arrangements to deliver effective country level governance, oversight and controls in the business and if necessary to recommend changes in these areas.
  • Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework in which the Group operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role.
  • Responsible for delivering 'effective governance'; capability to challenge fellow executives effectively; and willingness to work with any local regulators in an open and cooperative manner.

  • Our Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional qualification and experience at a senior level in 2 or more roles.
  • Market Knowledge, proven experience in a risk related function, including demonstrated success in a similar role.
  • Regulatory Framework and Requirements

  • Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework in which the firm operates and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the Enterprise Risk Review function.
  • Technical Skills

  • Experienced credit officer, reviewer or business person who is a subject matter expert in Retail banking and has experience in managing financial risks including credit and business risks.
  • Non-technical Skills

  • Good relationship management skills in a geographically diverse environment, and with key external stakeholders, high credibility with counterparts in the business, demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the Group's core values, excellent communication skills, ability to drive a change agenda.
  • Credit Risk Management or higher level certification for consumer, private and business bbanking.
  • Role Specific Technical Competencies

  • Experience and understanding of CPBB Credit Risk
