    SUMMARY

    Sony Corporation of America (SCA), the US headquarters of Sony, has an excellent opportunity for a Principal Network Architect with a strong background in the telecommunications industry who will support the launch of a new business incubated within SCA. This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining complex network solutions to ensure optimal performance, scalability, and reliability within a telecommunications environment. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of networking technologies, protocols, and architectures specific to Telco operations.

    You will act as a leader, mentor, and evangelist for the ever-increasing scope and capability of our production network, including owning the interface between the Network Team, other PlayStation and Sony product and development teams, as well as the Internet and ISP industry on emerging products, standards, and technologies to deliver innovative and robust networking solutions that will affect the experience of millions of PlayStation users.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    Network Architecture and Design:

  • Lead the design and architecture of telecommunications networks, considering scalability, redundancy, security, and performance.
  • Develop and present comprehensive network design proposals to stakeholders, addressing business requirements and technical specifications.
  • Telco Infrastructure Management:

  • Design and manage core Telco network infrastructure, including routers, switches, load balancers, and other relevant hardware.
  • Implement and maintain high-availability solutions to ensure uninterrupted service delivery to customers.
  • Protocols and Technologies:

  • Proficiently work with Telco-specific protocols such as SIP, VoIP, MPLS, and BGP.
  • Stay updated with emerging networking technologies, trends, and standards within the telecommunications industry.
  • Network Security:

  • Implement robust security measures to safeguard sensitive Telco data and prevent unauthorized access.
  • Conduct regular security assessments and audits to identify vulnerabilities and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Performance Optimization:

  • Monitor network performance and proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks or performance issues.
  • Fine-tune network configurations to optimize traffic flow and minimize latency.
  • Capacity Planning:

  • Perform capacity planning and forecasting to ensure network resources meet current and future demands.
  • Scale network infrastructure as necessary to accommodate increased traffic and user requirements.
  • Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including operations, support, and product development to align network strategies with business goals.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior network engineers, sharing expertise and knowledge.
  • Troubleshooting and Incident Management:

  • Lead the troubleshooting of complex network issues, identifying root causes and implementing solutions to restore service promptly.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to providetimely responses to critical incidents.
  • QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION

    Your qualifications and experience should include:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of global network experience
  • 8+ years in a network architecture and/or principal engineering role
  • Demonstrated experience in cutting-edge network technologies, including network automation, and the context required to make the right decisions based on business requirements.
  • Detailed understanding of the end-to-end delivery of consumer IP services including ISP, CDN and Cloud networking domains
  • In-depth knowledge of Telco-specific protocols (SIP, VoIP), MPLS, BGP, and other relevant networking technologies.
  • Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in IP network (Backbone and ISP), segment routing, MPLS, CGNAT/MAP-E
  • Strong understanding of network security principles and best practices.
  • Proven experience in network design and architecture, particularly within Telco environments.
  • Industry certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, JNCIP, or equivalent, are highly desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex network issues.
  • Effective communication skills for presenting complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership qualities with the ability to mentor and guide junior team members.

  • The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $160,000 to $175,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
