    Job Title: General Counsel Home Care Southeast Asia (Director)

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lawyer to join the Homecare Legal Team, to support the Southeast Asia (SEA) region. This role is suitable for combining the responsibilities with a General Counsel role for a country within the SEA region, as an integrated role. At the moment, the role is combined with the general counsel role for Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos, but there is flexibility in adapting it to suit your experience. The location for this role can be in any major HomeCare market within the SEA region. Local conditions apply.

    MAIN JOB DESCRIPTION

    Broad legal business partner leadership role – the key areas of responsibility are summarized below. We are looking for an internationally minded, highly collaborative lawyer who leads by example and has a successful track record in talent and team management.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    General

  • Legal business partner to President Home Care SEA for all HomeCare matters in SEA, supported by HomeCare lawyers within the SEA region
  • Member of the Home Care Leadership Team for SEA
  • Member of the global Homecare Legal Leadership Team
  • Manager of several HomeCare lawyers within the SEA region
  • Developing and evolving the HomeCare SEA legal strategy and priorities
  • Managing legal input to SEA HomeCare business from sourcing to selling
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with relevant external contacts ( legal functions of key customers, Governmental organisations, regulators, trade / industry associations, law firms and external bodies)
  • Legal business partner for national legal tasks and HomeCare to Head of Country & senior country team for Country GC role (optional).
  • Consumer product laws in Homecare industry

  • Good understanding of key SEA laws and the SEA Legal environment that applies to Homecare, for instance what regulators are focusing on, trends, enforcement areas of priorities, competitor challenges (inbound and outbound).
  • Experience with chemicals and environmental regulations, sustainability agenda, advertising rules and interaction with advertising authorities.
  • Product recall rules and regulations.
  • Previous work experience supporting Homecare is desirable.
  • Legal business partnering

  • Provide cross-functional advice and co-ordinated risk analysis to the Homecare BU manager and leadership team for SEA regarding Investor Boards, business growth initiatives, strategic business priorities, brand projects and product compliance. This includes for the legality of product claims, input into preparation of product art work and communication materials in accordance with all relevant legal rules across the SEA region.
  • Coordinate competitive challenges inbound and outbound to align with HomeCare strategies.
  • Create a highly motivated and well (Homecare)-trained network of internal lawyers across the region who are subject matter experts in their national legislation.
  • Support relevant Issue Management Teams, and various cross-category / divisional groups and initiatives regarding legal aspects of product safety, product recall, PR risks.
  • Drive brand strategies and product launches in SEA with support of a network of global, regional and local HomeCare lawyers.
  • Closely collaborate with Unilever's Trademark counsels and other IP experts to ensure IP assets are optimally protected and enforced.
  • Draft, advise on, review and negotiate, commercial contracts.
  • Identify competition risks, privacy risks and other compliance risks and collaborate with subject matter experts in Unilever's legal team to resolve them.
  • Legal subject matter expertise

    Candidates must be fully operational (8+ years PQE UK qualified) in Multinationals or comparable experience within the following areas:

  • Consumer law
  • Marketing and advertising law
  • Regulatory and product liability law
  • Commercial contracts
  • Business Integrity
  • Intellectual property (in particular trademarks)
  • Competition law
