Karen Kuek

Born and bred a Bornean from Kuching, Sarawak, I have over a decade of experience in both local Malaysia and international TV production. My expertise spans from producing to production managing as well as assistant directing, giving me a comprehensive skill set across all stages of production. I've worked with teams ranging in size from small crews of three to large-scale productions with over a hundred personnel. I’ve been responsible for managing expectations, meeting tight deadlines, and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality audiovisual content.

A few years ago, I was given the opportunity to site supervise the construction of a new glamping site. This project involved building the site from the ground up and refurbishing an abandoned building into a fully functional clubhouse. I was tasked with liaising directly with contractors, coordinating daily operations, and ensuring project milestones and budgets were met. With limited prior experience, I quickly immersed myself in learning all aspects of construction, gaining hands-on knowledge and developing a strong foundation in project management.

I am an avid diver who has experiences in underwater photography and videography. 

Fluent in both written and spoken English and Bahasa Malaysia, I also speak Mandarin, Hokkien and local dialect, which allows me to converse with diverse teams. 

I am known for being detail-oriented, flexible and highly organized. 

Currently residing in Kuala Lumpur, I am always eager to travel and relocate for work. I am ready to take on challenges that lies ahead.

Producer

Liaising with client on expectations and deliverables from pre-production to post-production. Brainstorm the idea and work with director and scriptwriter to develop the program. Managing overall budget and timeline. Hiring of manpower required for the project. Handling unexpected issues throughout the process. Projects such as Kodak Commercial, My Ghost Story Asia, Projek3R, 3R GenY, etc)

Production Manager

Managing line budget and timeline given by the Producer. Work with the Director to manage the expectations. Obtaining permits required for the shoot (ie government agencies, visas, location, etc). Handling logistics, company moves and resources. Serves as key point of contact for all departments. Handling unexpected issues throughout the process. Projects such as S.M.K., Travel for Love, Sedapnya Mulut, Celebrity Chef: East vs West, Say Yes To The Dress, House Hungers, Songlap, etc)

Assistant Director

Working closely with the Director on shooting schedule and storyboard. Point of communication between the Director and all other departments (ie Technical, Hair & Makeup, Wardrobe, Art, Casting and Production) to ensure all personnel are on the same page on shoot. Managing shooting schedule and callsheet on day to day basis. Handling unexpected issues throughout the process. Projects such as GamudaLand Raya Webfilm, Pulsar Dareventure, The Apartment, MINDEF, Cooking for Love, Fit For Fashion, Wonderful Indonesia, My Penang, etc)

Technical Producer

Liaising with client on expectations and deliverables. Liaising with logistical partners on importation and exportation of equipment. Checking and packing of equipment accordingly.
