Music Teacher - Role Profile
Purpose of Role
To carry out the professional duties of a music teacher as circumstances may require and
in accordance with the school's policies under the direction of the Head of Music and/or
the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).

Preamble
Job descriptions are subject to annual review and specific responsibilities will change to

All teachers need to promote the school ethos and health and safety and contribute to
continuous school improvement. We are looking for a teacher with a desire to make a
difference to the lives of young people, ideally with evidence of outstanding teaching and
learning. Candidates should have a clear and good understanding of current educational
issues, theory, and practice, including sound subject knowledge. A commitment to teaching

the role.
Key Responsibilities
Planning
Plan teaching to achieve progression in children's learning.
Identify clear teaching and learning objectives and specify how they will be taught
and assessed.
Set tasks, including homework, which challenge children and ensure a high level of
interest;
Set appropriate

learning, motivation and presentation of work.
Set clear targets building on prior attainment.
Design Individual Education Plans (IEPs) including the requirements of the Special
Educational Needs (SEN) Code of Practice when needed.
Make effective use of assessment information when planning lessons.
Take account of children's needs by providing structured learning opportunities
which develop the areas of learning identified in national, local and school policies.
Plan opportunities to contribute to children's Music knowledge and to their
personal, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
Assist with school productions and concerts throughout the year.
Ensure the efficient and effective deployment of classroom support, e.g. Teaching
and Learning Assistants.
Contribute to the Music Department Development Plan.
Ensure the effective scheduling of peripatetic lessons and the recruitment of
excellent instrument and singing teachers
Ensure a wide range of high quality extra - curricular activities are available to
children including ensembles, choirs and peripatetic lessons
Provide high quality music support for assemblies
Along with other members of the creative arts team organise and contribute to any
concerts, displays and activities requested.
Organise tea concerns and afternoon concerts to showcase ABRSM and other
musical talent (is this not one for the 'other' role
Teaching and Class Management
Establish and maintain a safe environment and working environment which
supports learning and in which children feel secure and confident.
Set high expectations for children's behaviour, establishing and maintaining a good
standard of discipline through well-focussed teaching and positive and productive
relationships.
Maintain discipline in accordance with the school's procedures and encourage good
practice with regards to punctuality, behaviour and standards of work and
homework.
Provide clear structures for lessons maintaining pace, motivation and challenge.
Use a Variety Of Teaching Methods To
❖ Structure information well, outlining content and aims and summarizing key points
as the lesson progresses.
❖ Instruct, demonstrate and give accurate, well-paced explanations using appropriate
vocabulary.
❖ Use effective questioning, listen carefully to children and pay attention to errors
and misconceptions.
❖ Match the teaching approach to the content and the children's needs.
Critically evaluate teaching to improve effectiveness, identifying potential
performing scholars and reporting those pupils to the Director of Music/SLT.
Encourage children to think and talk about their learning, develop
self-control and independence, concentrate and persevere, and listen attentively.
Assist potential music scholars with appropriate preparation.
Monitoring, Assessment, Recording and Reporting
Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use them to improve
specific aspects of teaching.
Mark and monitor children's work regularly and set targets for progress.
Assess and record children's progress systematically and keep records to check
work is understood and completed and understand where their strengths and
weaknesses lie.
Undertake assessment of children as requested by examination bodies and school
procedures.
Prepare and present informative reports to parents.
Report to parents regularly on their child's progress.
Fulfil the requirements of the school's Assessment Policy.
Curriculum Development
Write and deliver schemes of work that identify clear targets and success criteria
for its development and/or maintenance.
Contribute to the whole school's planning activities.
Professional Requirements, Standards & Quality Assurance
Display enthusiasm, understanding and commitment to ensure the children's
experiences are positive and underpin their educational lives.
Attend and contribute purposefully to the life of the school through effective
participation in Morning Briefings, Staff Meetings, Departmental Meetings and
through the use of the management systems necessary to coordinate the
management of the school.
Attend School Events And Functions As Required
Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety.

attend Continuous Professional Development (CPD) sessions, taking responsibility
for their own professional development and duties in relation to school policies and
practices.
Support the aims, ethos and purpose of the school and ensure the school achieves
these effectively.
Take part in the school's annual appraisal programme.
In addition, carry out other duties as reasonably required by the Head.
Requirement
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music Education or a related field.
Minimum 3-4 Years Of Experience Teaching Music.
Can deliver a balanced, broad and differentiated curriculum for their learners.
Can deliver well-planned, rigorous and interesting learning experiences for their
students.
Have high expectations of learners with appropriate inspiration and challenge.
Encourage and contribute to a well-organised and inspiring learning environment.
Experience of integrating technology into learning and teaching.
Have a growth mindset to all aspects of school life.
Passionate and willing to go above and beyond for the school community.
