Wen Jae Yau

An engineer with a degree in civil engineering with a specialization in coastal engineering background. Also interested in water-related engineering expertise (environmental, hydraulics, water quality, irrigation). Also open to other areas such as finance management, risk management, project management, and anything related to environmental, health and safety aspects. 

I have experience in several projects related to coastal engineer both in the consultant and also in the institute. 

I graduated with a BSc in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the Universiti Teknologi Petronas in 2019. During my final year studies, my project was related to the study of hydraulic stability of a self-healing rubble mound breakwater under regular wave action with the experimentation conducted in a wave flume. My project during the master’s degree is about the assessment of alongshore sediment transport at Teluk Nipah, Pangkor Island. Besides, throughout my master’s degree, I have supervised 6 students in their final year projects related to coastal engineering background. These projects have reinforced my interest and passion to continue pursuing coastal engineering expertise and further leveraging my skills in addressing unique coastal problems. 

At work, especially at consultation, I have sealed with a number of projects related to shoreline management programme and coastal hydraulic studies which require a handful set of tools to execute the works. Also I have conducted meetings along with the stakeholders, project manager, clients, site team as well as other relevant personnel. Besides, I also have assisted the contractors in the project tendering process which is subject to the client's terms and conditions. I have carried out numerous work analyses in coastal hydraulic studies of numerous projects and shoreline monitoring programmes, as well as the analysis of bathymetry of different study areas of different projects. 

Apart from that, I also had some experience in foundation works when I was a project engineer in 2021. The project that I was involved in the construction of the high-rise condominium called the Pavilion Mont Kiara and assisted in foundation works including pile load test, bored pile, and continuous bored piling works. Also, I have experience liaising with subcontractors on the daily management of site logistics and machinery as well as assisting in preparing requests for inspections (RFI) for any activities conducted at the site on a daily basis. Also, I coordinated with the resident engineer as well as attended meetings on a weekly basis with our team to facilitate the site progress. 

I graduated as a Bachelor in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) in 2019. Currently pursuing my MSc in Universiti Teknologi Petronas from July 2019 till now. Now almost at the complete stage of my MSc research journey, currently pending for viva voce.
